And if someone wanted to just talk...the girls would all sit around and would listen and they all pretty much helped each other...That was what I was taught there..You could tell after awhile who was going to stay or go..but I got to where I would sit up all night and get them to tell me what they wanted most in life beside the drug or the alcohol..and I would ask them to write in a journal about their thoughts and feelings and share with their counselor what they had shared with me..I didn't come from the back ground a lot of them did...but still I didn't think I was better than anyone. I was still an addict. I found that a lot of the girls just wanted to feel good about themselves and to feel respected....I didn't have any kind of training ..I just felt from the heart..I was raised with love and respect and a lot of those girls didn't have a good life at all..but I didn't feel sorry for them. I told them they could be anything they wanted or they could be a drug addict, they had choices...but they have to believe they are worth more than they have been shown.. I think you can be all tough and shove stuff down their throat but listening and actually giving a crap is what is more empowering than all that stuff some learn from a book...It worked for me and a lot of the girls...but some just didn't ever get it. The counselors were awesome and knew their stuff...and they actually cared about what they were doing.. It wasn't a fancy place on the beach...but it was clean and the food was good ..and we only had one problem the whole time I was there...They (the courts) put a suicidal girl in the facility...and she self-injured while there. Not only did I beat my addictions...I found the person in me that I needed to be.

It would be least to say that I had the time of my life at this facility. They actually managed to make detox fun. Dunklin Memorial Camp Residential Treatment Program is simply a great place to be. A lot of fun activities, great food and there’s even Xbox installed in all of the rooms so you can imagine how many things you get to have to kill your time. Outdoor visits to the beach were also arranged by the staff and we once went to the cinema as well. I had a lot of fun during my recovery. I’m sober now for 3 months and intend to keep things this way. Thank you for your help guys.
