The Wenholz House Corpus Christi
Provider Description
Substance Abuse Recovery House
The Wenholz House is already providing housing and living quarters for individuals that posses a strong desire for reintegration into our local community. Historically, with substance abuse recovery, people who were in recovery felt the need to stay with one another to offer support, stay sober, and continue working on their program. Halfway houses had been the "patient's" way of seeking aftercare, which had never been a part of treatment program. Halfway houses were generally not an entrepreneurial enterprise, but a means for persons with a common desire for sobriety to support one another. Sometimes an individual simply owned a home and opened it up to others with who they had been in recovery with, and it became a landlord-tenant relationship. In the past, there had been concerns from neighborhoods that had seen strangers in their area, more traffic in and out of the houses, and a general feeling of uncertainty.
Currently, our service is limited to a men’s facility. However, our long-range goal is to create women’s facility that reflects the same philosophy and care that will guide women back into our communities, and again provide a strong foundation of self-interest resulting in a desire to achieve a higher standard of living.
