User Reviews: In early Feb 2016 I began looking for a long term inpatient substance abuse/mental health treatment facility for my son. He was refusing treatment but I started looking so that I would be ready to go when he decided to accept some help. I spoke with a woman from Wellness who assured me that my insurance was accepted and told me the out of pocket cost would be $3-$4k/mo. I stopped looking for another facility at that time as Wellness had been recommended to me by a few professionals (who knew I was looking for long-term, inpatient treatment) and it was also recommended in a book I read. Mid-April, 2016 my son decides he is ready for help. He calls Wellness for his “intake” call. An hour or so later, a gentleman calls my son back and says our insurance is not accepted. They tell me I will be a direct pay which will cost $9,340/mo. and they need it all up front. My son was in a vulnerable state and has always refused treatment so I agreed. In speaking with the man from Wellness he advised me to book a flight for the next day as often when addicts have time before treatment they will change their minds or go out to party one last time and overdose. The man said to have my flight info ready when he called back in a few hours. I booked a flight, waited for a return call and tried to be patient. Around 5:30 pm I started to get nervous so I called and the office was already closed! Through another contact, I was able to have someone from Wellness get in touch with him after hours and he called me. He said he would email me a Financial Agreement and I was to sign it and fax it back that same night. The Financial Agreement was not clear at all. It made zero sense to me but at this point I was desperate and unable to speak with anyone from the facility again that night. I was worried that if I didn’t sign it that night, he would lose the bed and I wouldn’t even know until we arrived in FL the following afternoon. When we arrived at Wellness, the man was running around like a mad man working on other intakes for the day so we were passed off to a new guy whose name I do not recall. He could not clearly explain the Financial Agreement to me either but did assure me that I would not have to pay any more than the $9,340 for the first 4 weeks (aside from food and cigarette money) and that my insurance would not be accepted by Wellness. I was completely exhausted and was trying to make my flight home that same evening, so I just left. Four weeks went by without them billing our credit card! My son agreed to stay an additional 4 weeks when a woman from the billing department called and asked me to please send her another copy of the Financial Agreement. They lost the first copy somehow. I faxed her the Agreement and paid an additional $8,160 for the additional 4 weeks. In the mail, I started receiving EOB’s from Blue Cross for my son’s treatment at a place called Twelve Oaks (which is mentioned nowhere in our Financial Agreement). When I called Blue Cross, they told me Twelve Oaks was billing for Intensive Outpatient Treatment. I called the woman at Wellness and she attempted to explain why I was “direct pay” while simultaneously they were billing my insurance company after telling me my insurance was not accepted. Her attempts to explain were unsuccessful and she later involved the CFO and the company’s Director. No one could explain why I was being treated as a direct pay and they were also billing Blue Cross but everyone agreed we were due a refund. For months I have been talking to a different person every time I call Wellness. My son was discharged on 5/13/16 and as of 12/18/16 they have not sent a refund of any sort but claim they will be sending $850.00, which is outrageous. Paragraph 1 of the Financial Agreement says $2,275/week for TREATMENT…not housing which they now claim. Why in the world would I sent my son all the way to Florida for outpatient treatment and then pay $7,500/mo. for him to share an apartment with 3 other men Wellness is clearly making their money on their mandatory housing fee and they DO NOT state that up front when you’re dealing with them over the phone or in person! I signed this “contract” under duress and I am considering contacting an attorney at this point. They are in network for my Insurance Company and refuse to bill the housing expense because I signed this crud in an attempt to save my son’s life. There is no reason it should not be billed properly which is all I have asked of them this entire time!

Anyone who uses long enough like I did will certainly come in contact with “The Wall" that begins to block every benefit that we thought “getting our buzz on” had to offer. If you’re reading this...You know what I’m talking about! “The Wall" of built up tolerance where more and more is required. “The Wall” that stops and blocks friendships, family relationships, success at work or school, and continuity of hobbies and activities we once found peaceful and rewarding without help from any kind of substance. “The Wall” that halts our ability to enjoy the “little things” and the simple pleasures that life has to offer us every moment if we are just open to it. If we can live in the“now” without the clutter of all our thoughts surrounding not only our substance abuse, but all of our thinking that comes from an ego based self that thrives and stays alive through petty comparisons to others, fear of losing something, “being right”, having beliefs, and living in a past and/or future that is only a projected illusion.If any of this sounds absurd to you, then I know my writing is on the right track for you. Something inside you knows there’s some truth here. When Gulf Breeze Recovery taught me that every feeling and experience I have in my life comes from my own ability to create with my own thinking, I was caught off guard too. How could that be I’m 39 years old and have lived my whole life believing that all the events and circumstances outside of me determined how I felt, what kind of day I had, who was to blame, what mood I was in, and how happy or unhappy I was. How dare they tell ME that I’ve been doing this to myself all these years! How dare they tell me that I’m in control of how I feel about……..wait a minute…..I’m in control of how I feel and all of my experiences in life ……..And there it was….the truth that had been in front of me my whole life, so simple, yet so elusive. I was supposed to be looking inside for every answer for myself. It all starts there. What an insight…what a liberating discovery…..what an Inside/Out Revolution for me.Since my stay at Gulf Breeze Recovery, my life is not back to the way it was before my drug use….it’s way better. Within just a few short months, I was back in good with my family, my friendships were restored, and I’m enjoying my life every moment with a new set of eyes to view my world with. See, my addiction was just a symptom of a bigger problem. Some people have eating disorders, some people have gambling issues, some people have sex addictions, and some people use their intelligence to demean or criticize others to make themselves temporarily feel better. The problem is, just like drug use, these efforts to “cover up” our real issues are only a temporary false sense of well being. But, the truth to every "so called” addiction is a fundamental misunderstanding of how our brains and bodies work together to create our experience in life. Gulf Breeze Recovery helped me to uncover a true sense of well being that has no end, as well as an understanding of life for me that was there the whole time. My life will never be the same. There’s no unknowing what I know now and I am so grateful to their management and staff for helping me find the most important self discovery that anyone can have.Now, I am at the mercy of nothing outside of myself for my daily adventures in life. Nothing happens “to me” anymore. Things just happen and I determine how I want to feel about them which is no longer filled with a roller coaster of emotions, only an acceptance of every event for what it is….and I’m just along for the ride. So, I figure……why not make it a playground It’s way more fun than a Wall.
